The IPL and the WPL: Royal Challengers Bengaluru's 2026 double, and the finals before it.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) and the Women's Premier League (WPL) are the BCCI's franchise T20 competitions. Both 2026 seasons are finished, and Royal Challengers Bengaluru won both: the WPL in Vadodara on 5 February and the IPL in Ahmedabad on 31 May 2026.

Status on 22 October 2026

  • IPL 2026: finished. Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) beat Gujarat Titans in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, on 31 May 2026.
  • WPL 2026: finished. RCB beat Delhi Capitals in the final in Vadodara on 5 February 2026.

The dates and venues of the 2027 seasons were not in our research.

The IPL 2026 final

Gujarat Titans made 155 for 8, and RCB reached 161 for 5 with 12 balls left to win by five wickets (IPL match page and report, the report through a search summary). Virat Kohli made 75 not out and was Player of the Match. It was RCB's second title in a row, after their first in 2025.

The date is given two ways. The IPL's own match page dates the final 31 May 2026. Some Indian press coverage is dated 1 June 2026; those look like publication dates rather than the match date, so we use the IPL's 31 May.

  • 2023: Gujarat made 214 for 4. Rain cut Chennai's chase to 15 overs with a target of 171, which they reached (IPL match report, through a search summary).
  • 2024: Sunrisers were bowled out for 113 and Kolkata won with 114 for 2 in 10.3 overs. Mitchell Starc was Player of the Match (IPL; KKR).
  • 2025: RCB made 190 for 9 and Punjab 184 for 7. It was RCB's first IPL title after 18 seasons, and Krunal Pandya was Player of the Match (IPL; RCB).

How rain-shortened targets are set is explained on Duckworth-Lewis-Stern.

Where the IPL began

The first IPL match was Royal Challengers Bangalore against Kolkata Knight Riders in Bengaluru on 18 April 2008. Kolkata won by 140 runs after Brendon McCullum made 158 not out (ESPNcricinfo scorecard and report, seen through a search-result listing). Our research did not confirm the winners of each season from 2008 to 2022, so we do not list them.

The WPL 2026 final

Delhi Capitals made 203 for 4 in Vadodara (BCA Stadium) on 5 February 2026. RCB chased 204 to win by six wickets, which the WPL's own match report calls the competition's highest successful chase. Smriti Mandhana made 87 from 41 balls and was Player of the Match. It was RCB's second WPL title (WPL; RCB).

An Outlook India headline says it was Delhi Capitals' fourth successive WPL final defeat.
